History of Prem Mandir

The foundation stone of Prem Mandir was laid by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj on 14 January 2001. Approximately 1,000 skilled artisans worked for nearly 11 years to complete the temple.

The grand inauguration ceremony was held from 15 to 17 February 2012, and the temple was opened to the public on 17 February 2012. Its construction is reported to have cost approximately ₹150 crore.

Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj envisioned Prem Mandir as a universal monument of divine love. The temple was created to communicate the spiritual importance of devotion to Shri Radha Krishna and Shri Sita Ram through worship, architecture, sculpture, music, and visual storytelling.

Best Time for Darshan

For a peaceful darshan, the best time to visit is between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. Morning hours are generally less crowded and allow visitors to explore the temple’s marble carvings comfortably.

For temple illumination and the musical fountain, visit between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Arriving before sunset allows visitors to see the temple in daylight and then experience its colourful evening lighting.

October to March is the most comfortable season for visiting Vrindavan because the weather is comparatively pleasant. Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Holi, and Sharad Purnima offer a vibrant devotional experience but attract very large crowds.

By Train

Mathura Junction is the nearest major railway station, located approximately 12–14 kilometres from the temple. It is well connected with Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, and other major cities.

Taxis, auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and buses are available from Mathura Junction to Prem Mandir.

By Road
