Vishnu Ji Sahastranaam Stotra

Vishnu Ji Sahastranaam Stotra

Shri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra is a sacred Hindu hymn containing the one thousand divine names of Lord Vishnu. Each name describes a unique quality, power, form, or virtue of Lord Vishnu, such as the protector of the universe, the source of creation, the embodiment of truth, and the giver of peace and liberation. The stotra appears in the Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata, where Bhishma Pitamah recited it to Yudhishthira while lying on the bed of arrows.

Regular recitation or attentive listening is believed to calm the mind, reduce fear and negativity, strengthen devotion, and bring spiritual peace. It inspires devotees to follow the path of truth, righteousness, compassion, patience, and self-discipline. The Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra is considered a complete and powerful form of Lord Vishnu’s worship.

Shri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra is one of the most revered devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector of the universe. Through one thousand sacred names, the stotra celebrates His infinite forms, qualities, divine powers, and cosmic responsibilities. Names such as Narayana, Vasudeva, Keshava, Madhava, Govinda, Hari, and Achyuta reveal different aspects of the Supreme Being and help devotees develop a deeper spiritual connection with Him.

According to the Mahabharata, Yudhishthira asked Bhishma Pitamah who the Supreme Lord is, which is the greatest dharma, and whose name should be remembered to attain peace and freedom from worldly suffering. In response, Bhishma explained the glory of Lord Vishnu and recited His one thousand names. Therefore, this stotra is not merely a collection of divine names; it is also a timeless spiritual teaching about devotion, righteous living, and surrender to God.

Every name in the Vishnu Sahasranama carries profound spiritual meaning. Some names describe Lord Vishnu as the creator, sustainer, and controller of the universe, while others present Him as compassionate, eternal, all-knowing, fearless, and present within every living being. Reciting these names with faith encourages positive thoughts and helps the devotee experience inner stability, hope, and divine protection.

Devotees may chant the stotra during morning or evening prayers, on Thursdays, Ekadashi, or other auspicious occasions. It can also be heard with concentration when complete recitation is difficult. The most important elements are sincerity, devotion, and a peaceful mind. Regular practice is traditionally believed to purify thoughts, improve concentration, reduce anxiety, remove negative influences, and create a spiritually uplifting atmosphere in the home.

Shri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra teaches that the Divine exists everywhere and that remembering God’s names can guide a person through life’s difficulties. Its recitation nurtures humility, patience, compassion, faith, and self-control. It is regarded as a powerful devotional path for receiving Lord Vishnu’s blessings and progressing toward lasting peace, spiritual wisdom, and liberation.
